Don't Let Engine Idling Rob Your Pocketbook!
Don't warm your vehicle up by letting it idle. Your engine warms up faster when driving than it does when idling and idling wastes about a quarter of a gallon of fuel every 15 minutes. If your vehicle is going to be idling for more than 45 seconds, you will save fuel by turning it off.
Excessive idling decreases MPG and as an additional benefit, no pollution is created when the vehicle is off. The current EPA city tests include idling, but remember idling gets zero miles per gallon. Vehicles with larger engines typically waste more gas at idle than do vehicles with smaller engines. This is why Hybrid Vehicles are so much more efficient within city driving.
